Asias contenders confirmed (FIFA) Friday 17 October 2014 Asias quartet of competitors at the FIFA U-20 World Cup have been decided with Myanmar, Korea DPR, Qatar and Uzbekistan all having their tickets to New Zealand 2015 stamped. The four sides have made it to the biennial tournament after reaching the semi-finals of the AFC U-19 Championship, with host Myanmar making it to the global finals for the first time. A 1-0 win over United Arab Emirates saw them secure the spot, with Than Paings goal shortly after half-time ultimately proving crucial, booking them a place in the semi-finals for the first time since 1970. It was ultimately a tighter affair for Korea DPR, who had to endure the drama of a penalty shoot-out with Japan, seeing off their opponents 5-4 to seal a return to the tournament after missing out on Turkey 2013. It was the unfortunate Young Samuari Blue captain Takumi Minamino who saw his penalty saved by Cha Jong-Hun to decide the game. Uzbekistan defeated Thailand to make it back-to-back appearances for the first time, having also appeared at the tournament in 2003 and 2009. A 2-1 win booked their place this time around, after impressing last time out at Turkey 2013, where they reached the quarter-finals only to lose to eventual champions France. Qatar completed the four who will represent Asia in New Zealand with a goal-laden 4-2 win over China, seeing the runners-up from the third-ever instalment of the competition in 1981 - their best-ever result at a FIFA tournament - return again. Myanmar will take on the Qataris on Monday as the hosts will look to add to their seven continental titles, while Korea DPR and Uzbekistan will face off as they compete for a place in the 23 October climax. fifa
