Aside from the merits of this story, or its demerits, Lets consider the implied definition of terrorism. The press behaves as if it knows exactly what terrorism is. Is that true? Isn’t Nestlé’s aim to hijack the planet’s water and sell it to the planet’s citizens terrorism? Isn’t the hijacking of the Internet by the telecommunications corporations terrorism? Isn’t wage theft therrorism? Don’t those evils strike terror into human hearts? The press wants you to think that terrorism always wears a keffiyeh and a beard. But isn’t it true that terrorism also wears $14,000 suits and parks its limos in front of fire hydrants? The press is toweringly presumptuous and nothing so lacking in ordinary humility serves society well.
