Aspiring filmmakers have only six weeks left to enter the Jameson First Shot 2014 competition and the opportunity to direct Uma Thurman. The award-winning actress will take the lead role in three shorts written and directed by up-and- coming filmmakers in 2014. The actress follows on from creative director Kevin Spacey and Willem Dafoe’s starring roles in 2012 and 2013 respectively. One lucky winner from South Africa will get the opportunity to produce his or her script supported by Spacey and Dana Brunetti, Academy Award nominated producer and president of Trigger Street Productions and his team. The entry rules are: • Entrants must be at least 25 years old to enter • Entrants must write their script based on ONE of the three themes: ‘Legendary’ OR ‘Humorous’ OR ‘A Very Tall Tale’ • The script must be no longer than seven pages on A4 paper in size 12 point Courier font • Do not depict anyone under 25 in the script • Do not show excessive violence or scenes of excessive drinking, use of weaponry, drink driving, drug taking or drug references • The script should include a maximum of seven cast members • Scripts must be submitted in English • One entry per person – no writing teams – multiple submissions will be void The success of the first two years of the competition has resulted in nearly 12 million people tuning in to watch the winning films starring Spacey and Dafoe on Jameson’s YouTube channel. The 2014 competition aims to discover another three exceptional writers / directors from South Africa, Russia and the USA – the same three countries as the previous years.
