Assalamu alaikum w rahmatullahi w barkaatuhu ===================================== SILK IS FORBIDDEN IN ISLAM FOR MEN --------------------------------------------------- Ibn Umar reported that Umar (his father) found a garment made of silk that was being sold in the market so he took it and brought it to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and he said, O Messenger of Allah, buy this so that you can beautify yourself with it for the Eid and for receiving emissaries. He (the Prophet) replied, This is only the garment of someone who will have no portion (in the hereafter). (Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim) Note: Al-Imaam Ash-Shawkaanee (may Allah have mercy upon him) said in Nayl ul-Awtaar regarding this hadeeth, The Prophets statement, This is only the garment of someone who will have no portion, here the word Khalaaq means naseeb (portion, share). It contains a proof for the forbiddance of wearing silk (for men), and the angle of proof in this hadeeth for the legislative nature of beautifying oneself for the Eid with nice garments is the Prophets (peace be upon him) tacit approval of Umars original suggestion of beautifying oneself for the Eid. In other words, the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not correct Umars suggestion about wearing beautiful garments for the Eid, however he just pointed out that the particular garment in question was not acceptable for the purpose.
