Overview: Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Problem Topic/Audience Selection Module 1, Assignment 2: HEALTHY PEOPLE 2020: Leading Health Problem Topic/Audience Selection Learning Objectives Select one leading health problem from HP 2020 Identify three scholarly journal articles on the selected HP 2020 leading health problem Describe a teaching topic and audience from the selected HP 2020 leading health problem Directions: 1. Go to the Healthy People 2020 website, healthypeople.gov/2020 Once you are on the site look around. Click on the headings at the top of the main page and skim the material that is on each page. Identify the mission of Healthy People 2020 Identify the goals of Healthy People 2020 Identify the four measures used to evaluate progress toward goal achievement 2. After reviewing the Healthy People 2020 website, go to the 2020 Topics and Objectives page. Scroll down to the topics and click on at least a dozen of the topics and review the specific objectives within each topic. As you are reviewing the health problems, ask yourself these questions (no need to include the answers to these questions in the paper). a. Is this a personal or family health concern for me? b. Is this a health concern for patients/clients in my practice? c. Am I interested enough in this health concern to learn more about it? d. Is this a health concern I know nothing about but want to learn more? e. Would this health concern be a topic I could embrace and perhaps engage to help reduce the problem in my community? 3. After reviewing the topics and answering the questions choose ONE leading health problem from Healthy People 2020. This will be the topic around which you will develop the teaching plan. 4. Develop a one to two page paper that addresses the following: a. Name of Leading Health Problem chosen from Healthy People 2020 b. Identify the reasons for selecting this problem based on the questions you answered in item #2 above. c. What population (gender, age group, and ethnic group) would be most helped by educating them about the chosen topic? Why? d. How could an educational program about this topic help the community where I live? 5. Go to CINAHL or any other medical article index (via the OU Library) and find three or four professional journal articles (less than 5 years old) that address the topic you have selected and develop a reference page listing the articles in APA format. 6. Be sure to use the grading rubric while completing the assignment to receive full points. 7. Submit the assignment no later than 11:59 PM (EST), Sunday of Week 1. 8. Submit as an attachment.
