These challenges include the issue of supranational organizations, national identities, polities and powers struggling to impose their criteria in a new world order; intercultural exchanges, ethnic and cultural encounters generating new tendencies; environmental impacts related to development and pollution; competing emerging and declining economies; social changes dealing with age, gender and the family; the role of religion in a global society where moral and ethical values are redefined. The conference will focus on how societies respond to those challenges. Some of the specific topics will include: Changes in new urban developments. Theories and concepts of town planning. Challenges in gender relations, the role of women in society and their impact in the field of new technologies. Generational challenges in aging populations and in growing demographics. Challenges in how we interpret the past and its projection towards the future. Challenges in the postcolonial world and the unfolding of new trends. Challenges in Europe and the Americas, regional and national challenges in emerging societies and economies. Trends and challenges in the economic development of nations and regions. The future of the research university: meeting the global challenges of the 21st century. The impact of complex scientific discourses and their impact on teaching and it disclosure to the community. Challenges and problems in environmental matters. We invite you to submit research on issues already outlined, and we encourage you to raise any new proposals on different subjects that you deem relevant. Environment: physical, biological, socioeconomic, cultural and historical aspects i) The role of the Amazon and other major nature reserves in the future of the planet ii) Poverty and climate change iii) Culture and environmental pollution iv) The environmental future and sustainability of the planet Submission Guidelines *All presenters must be members of the Association by conference time. *Paper submissions should be sent to ahlist1[@]gmail Submissions can be in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. All submission should represent original work done by the authors. There will be two options to propose/submit: i) panel proposal; ii) individual paper. I. Panel Proposal (Session Proposal with three of more papers): If you plan to propose a panel/session, please include the title of the panel and the names of presenters; a panel abstract of 150-250 words; a separate page with the names of presenters, their contact information (mailing address, phone number, and email) and institutional affiliation(s), the titles of their presentations; and a 250-word abstract for each paper. Panels will be one hour and fifteen minutes long. Presenters for a panel will be asked to submit their abstract and information separately. II. Individual Proposal Each author can use one of the following submissions to propose: a) abstract; b) work-in-progress paper; c) full paper. a. Abstract: A title and 250 words (double-spaced and 12 fonts). b. Work-in-progress: A structured proposal of about 1,000 words (double- spaced and 12 fonts) including purpose, methodology/approach, findings, research limitations/implications, and originality/value. A reference list is required. Tables or figures should be placed in the appendix after the reference list if needed. c. Full Paper: Full paper submissions must not be published, accepted for publication, or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors should limit their initial submissions to approximately 20-25 double-spaced pages in 12-point font with appropriate margins, inclusive of all materials (i.e., references, figures, tables and appendices). In preparing for the full papers, please reference the author’s guidelines. If full papers are not formatted accordingly, they will not be considered or reviewed by AHLiST.
