The Life Story People (APH members) will find much history to mine in this city built by explorers, fur traders, pioneers, and immigrants who believed they could achieve a better life. There, grounded in the same expectations as the citys forbearers, APH will sponsor four intense days of education, inspiration, and motivation for those who believe they can achieve ever-greater results in the telling of Life Stories. APH Conference Program Chair Peggy Greenwood has planned a stimulating and educational program. Newcomers and veterans alike will leave with newfound skills and strategies after attending informative workshops, hearing motivational speakers, and networking with colleagues from across the globe. We are especially excited about our lineup of speakers this year. Washington Post editor Steve Luxenberg will share the behind-the-scenes story of his award-winning memoir, Annie’s Ghosts: A Journey Into a Family Secret. Qais Akbar Omar, author of A Fort of Nine Towers—an account of his family’s escape from a brutal civil war and Taliban rule— will testify about the power of stories to embolden, console, and bind a family together in the face of almost unimaginable odds. Renowned playwright Henry Greenspan will present REMNANTS, a one-act play about the experiences of Holocaust survivors he has interviewed. Personal Historians, motivated through the belief that every person has an extraordinary story to tell, are committed to recording the personal and family histories for future generations. Founded in 1995, the Association of Personal Historians has approximately 700 members representing twelve countries.
