Associazione Aldebaran Artistic Director Enrico Stinchelli Taormina Opera Stars - “The Auditions” REGULATION Art. 1 – Objective The Taormina Opera Stars is an event created to plan and produce operas in the Historical Theatre in Taormina as well as in other important national and international stages (the Arena Flegrea in Naples and the Theatres in Zurich, Lugano and Malta), between the period from July to September 2015. Internally, The Auditions sector is aimed at discovering and developing vocal talent that will be taking part in the said events. Therefore, The Auditions are aimed at identifying the most suitable interpreters who would form part of the Cast for the planned Operas: Nabucco, Traviata, Aida by Verdi; Bohème, Tosca, Turandot by Puccini; Carmen by Bizet; Cavalleria rusticana by Mascagni; Pagliacci by Leoncavallo; Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini. Art. 2 – Participants The Auditions sector of the Taormina Opera Stars is open for opera singers of any nationality, age and vocal register, whether they are residents and/or non residents in Italy. Consequently a very good musical, vocal and necessary talent including an artistic presence is required. Art. 3 – Places and dates for The Auditions The Organization has identified three different locations and dates to facilitate participation in The Auditions in line with the participants’ different logistical exigencies: Rome (28, 29 and 30 November 2014); Milan (5, 6 and 7 December 2014); Taormina (12, 13 and 14 December 2014). Art. 4 – Modalities for the auditions The Auditions will be carried out with a piano musical backing. In specific cases, the use of pre-recorded musical backing will be allowed, in agreement with the Artistic Direction. The candidates will be required to specify the chosen opera tune and the roles identified for their performance. The opera tunes must form part of the program titles (refer to Art. 1); tunes from other operas are not allowed. However for those wishing to participate as supporting actors, due to the lack of actual tunes, then alternative, standard or specific extracts can be proposed which are related to the chosen opera, as determined by the Artistic Director. The candidate will need to submit, at the auditions, a copy of the chosen tune, to the piano Maestro, together with a suitable pre-recorded support. Art. 4 bis – Non residents in Italy The Organization has determined a ‘pre-selection’ process, for the non residents living in Italy in order to meet their logistical exigencies, by sending (via email) all the necessary requested documentation (refer to Art. 7) as an attachment, which will include a supporting audio/video (a You Tube or equivalent file) that will be examined by the Artistic Direction. The Direction reserves the right, after vetting the contents, to invite the pre-selected candidates to additional auditions in one of the three selected places at a date to be agreed. Art. 5 – Taormina Opera Stars: The Stage The interpreters selected through The Auditions will participate in a preparatory role Stage which will be held in Taormina between the 23 March and the 1 April 2015. The Stage for the selected roles is completely free and does not entail any participation commitment. At this point the artists will be prepared for the individual roles from a scenario and musical aspect, in relation to the ‘final summer trials’ (which will be held just before the recital), in which they will be guaranteed the respective remuneration in accordance with the contract. Art. 6 – Those that have ‘not been selected’ The candidates who have distinguished themselves during The Auditions, even if they have not been selected, but who have demonstrated specific attributes that can be fine tuned and which result as being worthy, in the incontestable opinion of the Artistic Direction, will be able to participate in a special Stage, through the payment of an amount of €200.00. During this Stage, they will be able to participate in collective and individual lessons, which will be dedicated to the programmed titles and roles. Art. 6 bis – Scholarships for the most deserving 10 candidates who will have distinguished themselves in a particular manner during the auditions (for scenario abilities, vocal talent or for the young age in relation to the artistic quality), will be offered 10 Scholarships, by the Taormina Opera Stars, which are valid for the entire special Stage (refer to Art. 6). In addition, all of them will be given the opportunity to participate to the rehearsals and eventually to the concerts and recitals. Art. 7 – Request for enrollment The requests for enrollment will need to be received within and not after the 15 November 2014. The candidate will need to submit: - a copy of a valid identification document - a duly compiled application form - curriculum vitae - two set shots (half length and full length photo) - copy of the receipt indicating the payment of €50.00 (not refundable) to be effected by: ➢ Bank transfer to the following address: Associazione Culturale e Musicale Aldebaran Via Pirandello n. 35 - 98039 Taormina ( ME ) - tel. +39 393 3877412 IBAN: IT 28 E 01005 82590 000000001290 Bic/Swift Code: BNLTRRIIXXX Reference: Enrollment fee Taormina Opera Stars – The Auditions.
