At 200 am, the center of tropical storm Ana was located about 500 miles from South Pt. Ana is moving toward the west near 10 mph. Ana is expected to gradually turn toward the west-northwest later today, then turn toward the northwest on Friday with little change in forward speed approaching island waters. On the forecast track, the center of Ana will pass near the Big Island Friday night and Saturday. Then cont west. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph, with higher gusts. Ana is forecast to gradually intensify and become a hurricane by Friday. It has run into a pocket of shear which has made it less intense in the last observation --- still tropical storm status. It may run into areas of warmer SST (ocean temp) and less shear... But the last satellite image shows it losing some steam. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles, from the center. We will cont to watch and share updates from the CPHC. Recon data is set to be collected today for better observations of ANa traveling over open ocean towards us . Still models keep it to our south...& even though a Lil bit farther south... Too close for comfort . #Ana #hiwx #hawaii #hnn #hnnwx
