At 3:00pm (15:00) we received a call for a brush fire on I-10 near milepost 27 West. The fire started when a semi truck had a blowout and continued to drive - building up lots of friction. When he pulled to the side of the roadway, the heat from the hub and axle set the brush on fire. The driver of the semi continued down the freeway for a distance. When units caught up to where the driver finally stopped, minimal smoke was showing at the hub of the truck. Our crew extinguished and cooled the axles and returned to the original brush fire. Captain Cushman and Firefighter Hoser were able to extinguish the brush fire with little difficulty. All the flames were put down and semi axles cooled by 3:38pm (15:38) when our crew returned to the station. Outstanding response gentlemen. Very nice.
