At 3.30 pm yesterday, police were called to a report of a young boy and a female taken from the water at Woolacombe Beach in North Devon. Both casualties were unconscious when they were rescued by RNLI Lifeguards. They were both taken to North Devon District Hospital by RAF Helicopter. The 9 year old boy and the female in her late forties were taken to the hospital and remain seriously ill. The incident is not being treated as suspicious. The surf conditions were heavy and the RNLI dealt with a number of incidents in the North Devon area.
