At 5:30am on this day in 22 years ago, my life was forever changed by two individuals who decided to violate my home and my body. I thank God that the Angels at the Henn Co SARS Program were there to guide me through the aftermath of such a horrific, and life changing event. If it were not for my counselor Dr. Linda Ledray, RN, PhD, I am convinced that I WOULD NOT be the strong woman I am today! She demanded I come see her the afternoon the same day of the rape. The most valuable gift of strength she taught me at our first of many sessions was, You were a victim while it was happening, but the moment they left and you were alive, you are now a SURVIVOR! I am eternally grateful for that seed she planted, without it... I honestly believe I would be a shell of myself without that, her support & guidance. She also said You should not be ashamed to say the word rape, or talk about what happened. You didnt hurt anyone, you had no control of what they did to you. I do have some issues with PTSD from that morning, but overall I am proud to say... I AM A SURVIVOR!!!! I would like anyone reading this to be inspired to not let life kick you... We CANNOT control what happens to us, but we CAN control how we choose to react to it!!! Please choose to be happy, be grateful for the little things. God Bless!
