At AWP conference met a young woman with two canes with the arm cuffs. I spoke with her a moment. Her doctors had not yet come up with a diagnosis. We shared our journies with uncomfortable physical illnesses, and she asked if I was going to write about my journy. That gave me pause, because at that time I wasnt sure what my final diagnosis would be, and I could not honestly say I have handled it well, and often put on a braver, overcoming face than matches my insides. It all had to go in. Then my husband asked me last week if I was writing about it. Maybe that is a signal from God that it is time to keep a journal at least, waiting for the day Im ready to get it published or accept rejection letters. I know from seeing several people with canes or walkers at the event, that there are many people, many younger than me, who need something like the piece I have been thinking about writing. If I dont shore up and encourage others like me, I am not doing my job.
