At Barnardos, we are seeing that mental health is an increasing issue for many of the families we work with, which can have an impact on children. Parents are telling us that prejudice often prevents them from asking for help, and even if they do seek support, services too often see them as a patient, not as parents and people. We want to highlight this serious issue and call for a more family-focused approach, so we held a conference yesterday to hear from parents, carers, experts and professionals. Its starting a conversation which we hope will lead to improvements in how families experiencing mental health difficulties are supported.
