At TOP last nite, while everyone was gathered up front & all us parents were considering what sort of job wed done raising our own children, I closed my eyes to pray and a deep oppressive blackness surrounded me. In the center of it appeared a pale gray window, then huge, thick black letters jumped into view: FAILURE Every mistake Id ever made as a father, every shortcoming, every regret - simultaneously burst into my consciousness. It felt like someone dropped a building onto my chest. I began trembling uncontrollably & actually wondered if my mind was going to collapse right then & there in front of everybody. Then the letters began to writhe, shift and change shape. I thought, oh boy, this really is the end of my sanity! The first 3 letters, F A I , didnt change at all. But the rest of the letters changed completely. When the shape-shifting stopped, the letters spelled, FAITHFUL I was so shocked that both my eyes immediately popped open. The after-image of FAITHFUL remained a split second in my vision. Then the explanation came in words spoken sub-audibly, yet directly into my consciousness: Both of the words started out looking the same, didnt they? I said, Yeah, they did! out loud, then involuntarily slapped my hand over my mouth. But the proof of the outcome isnt in the beginning: its at the ending of the matter... The oppressive weight instantly melted away. All I could do was just stand there with my mouth wide open, completely speechless.
