At VAWO, we work hard to make sure that our volunteers, staff, and adoptive families understand that for behavioral modification, positive reward training is best. Unfortunately, we have a lot of fans of Caesar Milans Dog Whisperer television show which- while entertaining and a good example to owners that all dogs are capable of rehabilitation- provides pet owners with exactly one type of dog training philosophy that has been questioned by many professional trainers associations and scientists. The untrained and uninformed dog owner sees his show and thinks they are automatically a trainer and that their animals problems can been fixed simply by dominance. This is a grossly oversimplified method. Please check out these website that provide counter arguments to his methods. Just because you see it on TV, does not make it true.
