At about 1 am this morning on October 29th, The Allman Brothers Band finished playing their final performance. Today also marks 43 years since the death of Duane Allman. People tell me I act like I knew the band and I knew Duane. Im only 19. I know I didnt know them, but they sure as hell impacted me more then anything I can think of, so I know I talk about them a lot, but Im sure you all would too if this music did to you what its done for me. While the Allman Brothers have affected me and my lookout on life no one person has influenced me more then Duane Allman. He got the band where it needed to be, he was a down to Earth man, and, most importantly, was a master guitarist in his own right. He knew the importance of being a professional act while still managing to have his fair share of fun, and thats why it didnt end 43 years ago, and this is not the end either. We can still enjoy the music of Tedeschi Trucks Band, Govt Mule, Jaimoes Jasssz Band and more from those who impacted this sound so much. While this marks the end of the road for The Allman Brothers, this means it is now my time and yours. Im talking to fellow musicians and Jam Band/Jazz Fusion enthusiasts. As the history of this style of music goes, when one goes down, more rise from the ashes. In the wake of Jerry Garcias death we saw bands like Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, and The String Cheese Incident take the style and make it their own by incorporating jazz, bluegrass, progressive rock, and everything in between, and theyve all come so far and I thank you for all you have done. You defined what it means to be a Jam Band. Playing a multitude of genres while still maintaining your own personal and wonderful sound, and now its our turn. A new generation who can take the music and expand, innovate, and play something we can all enjoy. Today post a link to your favorite jam or really anything. I have told you about my story here.
