At approximately 1.35am this morning (Sunday 12 October), emergency services were called to an incident on the northbound carriageway of the A500 in Cliffe Vale, Stoke-on-Trent. A BMW, driven by a man from the Stoke-on-Trent area, had left the carriageway and the driver was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. The road remained closed for approximately four hours while specialist officers from the regional collision investigation unit examined the scene. A formal identification is yet to take place and the man’s family are being supported by family liaison officers.
