At approximately 2030hrs last night (08/01/15). Swansea firefighters along with crews from Belmont Fire Station and the NSW Ambulance Service, responded to reports of a motor cycle accident in bushland near Catherine Hill Bay. On arrival crews were informed that a bush walker had located an injured trial bike rider approximately 2kms into bushland off the Pacific Highway near Old Mine Camp Rd. Crews from Belmont attended as the primary rescue service with back up provided from our Swansea team. Initial access along the track where the accident had occurred was hampered due to large concrete boulders being placed at the entrance to the trail. Crews worked to remove these before access to the patient was gained by 4WD appliances from Belmont and the NSW Ambulance. During the operation a single lane of the pacific highway was closed and traffic control carried out. Great work from all services ensured the patient was carefully removed and transported to hospital via road ambulance. Particular challenges are always presented with night operations as well as those in bushland beside a major highway, all services worked together to overcome these and ensured that the best and quickest care was provided to the patient. A job well done.
