At one time, I thought the Internet was a marvelous tool. It gives us instant access to music, books, video, news, scholarly articles, an encyclopedic realm of human experience and knowledge -- But ... the Internet is also destroying not only our attention spans, but our ability to do critical thinking. Sometimes the Internet is nothing but a toxic realm, a petri dish for the development of new strains of stupidity, a festering cesspool where we bob for lumps and hope theyre really apples. And ... even if you get past that, theres the scammers, the spammers, and the clickbait -- the advertisements, the phony come-ons, the lies and bullshit so deep that you need hip-boots and waders up to your cheekbones. Here, we have the greatest informational tool in human history -- and we use it for disinformation and assault, greed and corruption and predation. The only cure is the individual one. Dont patronize, dont encourage, dont invest in, dont waste energy on the bullshit -- except to call it out as bullshit. Oh yeah -- and vote. Vote wisely.
