At one time, the US Govt allowed local banks to issue currency. They were called National Currency (versus Silver Certificates or Federal Reserve Notes). I knew the 1st National Bank of Birmingham issued some currency because I own some but I never knew that The Ensley National Bank did. This is a $10 National Currency note issued in 1902. I imagine it is relatively quite rare. See the number 7684 printed twice on the note? That was the bank designation #. For sale on eBay.
