At our project of Helping Youth in Prisons and Detention Centres our staff regularly visits those young men who are in Kuryazh detention colony. Our main goal for this project is to show young people alternative ways to their aggressive behaviour, help them adapt to the social norms, develop their talents and skills, broaden their worldview and their interests. Last week we invited a famous Kharkiv historian and archeologist, Valeriy Leyko, to visit the colony with us. He presented a lecture on archeology and even brought some archeological pieces as visuals for the guys. Young people had an opportunity to see and touch some of the ancient exhibit items. “Thorough such a discreet and enjoyable method of educating the youth, we can bring out their potential and encourage their interest to history,” Valeriy says. We are hoping that some of our young students will be interested in developing and studying this science in the future.
