At present the monetary jurisdiction of the District Court in Ireland is €6,348 and that of the Circuit Court is €38,092. On 3rd February these figures will be substantially increased. From 3rd February the maximum amount that the District Court can award will increase to €15,000 and the maximum the Circuit Court can award will increase to €75,000 (€60,000 in personal injuries cases). The compensation that can be awarded to the relatives of a deceased person who bring an action for wrongful death has also been increased with effect from 11th January. Until recently the amount that the courts could award for bereavement in fatal injuries claims was €25,394. The figure is now €35,000 for claim initiated after 11th January.
