At the Bristol course yesterday, Kanetuska sensei repeated a movement Ive noticed him do a few times now. To me it looks very similar to the helix roll Steve Paxton developed in his Material for the Spine. (When Steve teaches it, he makes reference to the leading arm in mae kaiten ukemi.) I see a connection between the two but I havent worked out what it might be yet. I thought Id share it in case anyone with more knowledge than me might find it interesting. The helix roll Im talking about is clear at about 48 seconds, and then again with a nice helix graphic at about 1minute 15 seconds. If Ive understood a little of what Kanetsuka sensei was teaching, he was showing the movement in relation to retaining connection to centre and maintaining kokyu.
