At the gym today. For those of you that dont know, Ive been working as a personal trainer for just about 25 years. The industry has changed quite a bit and extensive studies in biomechanics have given us more insight. The reason that Im writing this is because of what I witness at the gym. There are so many people working in ranges of motion that are unsafe. The big issue is that weight training builds muscle, but if you do it with improper form you can end up with significant long term complications. Some common nagging injuries : Pain in the front or side of shoulder Pain on the inside or below the knee cap Pain on the outside of the thigh Pain on the outside of the hip Pain in the lower back Pain in the heel, especially in the morning Many times these can be dealt with consistent stretching and strengthening.
