At the height of the Cold War in the 50s, Russia banned Jazz and Rock & Roll. Soldiers would smuggle in records, but that was just a trickle and one at a time. Until one day an enterprising student figured that they could use the devices that made voice recorded greetings to make copies, and distribute lots more records. But the government caught on and clamped down on the issuance of blanks. Some genius figured out that old x-ray film would work well enough. These were called rib rock or bone rock recordings.
