This is exactly the kind of piece I hoped would come out of our mural ordinance – something that inspires community pride and also leads to thoughtful debate and discussion – that’s what great art does. One of the more amazing aspects of this project is that, as mural organizer General Jeff put it, Skid Row residents came together to both officially qualify and register the mural project. I’m very proud to represent the Skid Row community and am committed to expanding health, housing, and other social services and, in general, being an advocate for this community and the many homeless individuals who live here. We have expanded our Operation Healthy Streets to include more frequent cleanings and health and social services, and I have called for the City to create a homelessness czar, director, or coordinator. We are committed to making real progress.
