Athlete of the Week: Belchertown Soccer Forward Noah Lussier Belchertown. Ma (WGGB)—-While many teams tout the “team first” attitude few execute it as well as Belchertown boys soccer. Forward Noah Lussier describes himself as just one piece of the puzzle that makes this Oriole’s team successful. “I think we all work for each other and there aren’t a lot of individuals that are just out there for themselves,” said Lussier. “Everybody cares about each other so it creates a good atmosphere.” “I always tell these guys I’m not looking for a hero I’m looking for a soccer team,” said head coach Tony Almeida. “So I’m not looking for any one player to be above anyone else. We all try to work as a family and as a team.” Noah leads the team in goals and assists but stats are evenly spread throughout the squad. Noah credits making the team as a freshman with helping him grow on and off the field. “When I was an underclassmen there were a lot of players ahead of me that were really talented,” said Lussier. “They played a lot more than me and took a lot of the leadership on, but this year I’m the one that’s motivating people and a lot of people in my grade have had to step up.” “He has grown tremendously over the past couple of years,” said Almeida. “He’s handling the ball in the middle of the field for us a lot better. He”s developing our offense a lot better than last year. I’m looking forward to what he can accomplish next year.” The Orioles finished up their regular season with a 1-0 loss to West Springfield in a tightly contested match. Belchertown had several good chances in the second half, something Noah says the team will use as motivation going forward. “I feel like we’re clicking,” said Lussier. “That game against Westside we played really well I thought. A lot of things were working for us except putting the ball into the net but not for lack of effort. Any other day we would have scored five goals.” No strangers to the postseason the Division III defending champs will look to start another playoff run this year with the help of veteran leadership from Noah and his fellow upper class-men. “Playoffs are a totally new season and we have to be really focused,” said Lussier “We can’t take any halfs off. We have to play hard the whole game and keep our focus or one little slip and any team can beat you.”
