Atiku writes: Nigerians would not have been calling for a National Conference, sovereign or not, if we were meeting our people’s basic needs, including food, shelter, education, security, energy, and transportation infrastructure, if we were putting the country on the right path and every segment of the country feels equitably treated. And we would unlikely see people describing as a mistake the amalgamation of the northern and southern parts of Nigeria 100 years ago. The above is a serious error of judgment on the part of Atiku Abubakar and an attempt to fool gullible Yoruba Youths, who have started supporting his agenda for the National Conference as written on the ThisDay NewsPaper earlier today. In Scotland, which is a part of the United kingdom, the people have unemployment benefits, free qualitative healthcare, free education up to the university level, disability allowance, subsidized housing, security of life and properties, energy, transportation infrastructure, and many more social welfare benefits and amenities, yet, the Scottish are voting in a referendum to separate from the United kingdom in September. The people of Catalonia region in Spain have basic needs including food, shelter, education, security, energy, and transportation infrastructure, again, the region is going to vote in a referendum in November to separate from Spain. The former USSR was one of the most powerful country in the world with basic needs of the people met, yet, the country separated into more than 15 countries. It is therefore not a matter of meeting peoples basic need that will stop them from agitating for their right to self determination. When people come to term that they would be better off as an independent state, there will always be nationalism in favour of self determination. Provisions of basic needs for Nigerians will not stop the Yoruba, Ijaw and others from expressing their rights to self determination.
