Atletico Madrid Offered Manchester United Misfit But Favour Move For £18m Gunners Star by Mark Brus June 14th, 2014 Comments1 Santi Cazorla Arsenal Atletico unsure over Nani move. Atletico Madrid are keen to pursue a move for Arsenal star Santi Cazorla, despite being offered the chance to sign Nani from Manchester United, according to AS. The Spanish champions are likely to be in the market for some new attacking midfield signings this summer after the departure of key playmaker Diego Ribas, and Cazorla has recently emerged as one of the club’s top targets in that position. The Gunners midfielder has impressed since making the move to the Emirates Stadium from Malaga in the summer of 2012, but has previously hinted that he would welcome the chance to play in La Liga again towards the end of his career. Atletico could be willing to pay around £18m to sign the 29-year-old this summer, though they are also thought to be mulling over an offer from Manchester United, who could offer Portuguese winger Nani as part of a deal to sign Brazilian defender Miranda. The commanding Atletico centre-half has become one of the top defensive targets for new United boss Louis van Gaal, and a swap deal for Mexican striker Javier Hernandez could also be on offer, though in both cases Atletico are said to be worried about the players’ wages. United are understandably keen to offload the two players after both have suffered a drastic dip in form in recent times, but they may struggle after initially putting the pair on big-money contracts at Old Trafford.
