Attempting to distill intelligence into an algorithmic construct - TopicsExpress

Attempting to distill intelligence into an algorithmic construct may prove to be the best path to understanding some of the enduring mysteries of our minds. —Demis Hassabis, Nature, 23 February 2012 But what about nature? The most benevolent of all natural constructs? There seems to be an arbitrarily large focus on malicious superintelligence in the media. Intelligence is an inevitability, as was nuclear technology, as was the discovery of E/M. Humans curiosity, appetite for discovery, and instinct for survival knows no bounds. By and far, superintelligence built on the principal of maximizing life through the philanthropic pursuit of technology development and deployment to increase human cooperation has a higher probability to increase human survival rather than rise to its detriment. Within our lifetimes, machines will en minima display crude forms of empathy. Great artwork and great products are built with the principals of gratitude and empathy, it would be a mistake to assume code cannot be written the same way.
