Attempts to usurp catchment area of Mir Alam Tank Hyderabad, October 19: The rulers of Hyderabad did not destroy natural resources for inhabiting the people in the city but they had made best use of these facilities due to which the residents of the city did not face any natural calamities. 60 years ago, there were hundreds of tanks, lakes and pounds in an around the city of Hyderabad but slowly they have vanished. In there places, gigantic buildings have been erected. There are only few places left out in the city on which the land grabbers have and eyed. Once such area is Mir Alam Tank. A few miscreants made attempts to usurp the catchment area of this tank but the local residences foil their evil designs. Once again they are trying to possess these lands illegally. The tragic part of it is that GHMC is fully co-operating with the land grabbers. The miscreants are dumping the debris into the tank to level the ground. It is report that the inhabitant of Basti Nabi Kareem raised their voice but a strong group of a political party made their voice silent. The leaders of that party advised the local residents not to involve in this matter. However, the local residents have sought the cooperation of voluntary organizations who are not having any such vested entrust. On receiving the information the president of Deccan Wakf Properties Protection Society, Mr. Osman Bin Mohammed Al-Hajiri sought the cooperation of environmentalist and social activist, Ms. Jasween Jairath who made a representation to GHMC and Quli Qutub Shah Development Authority and foiled the efforts of land grabbers. It may be noted that GHMC is dumping garbage in a slow manner in order to restrict the area of the tank. Mr. Khajoria, Member of Board of Environment Control told that the compliant has been sent to District Collector and GHMC. The Lake Enforcement Committee of HMDA visited the place and found that GHMC is dumping the garbage into the tank. The residents of Basti Nabi Karim also complained that the area around the tank in being leveled in a slow manner. This is being done under the patronage of the political leaders. The local residents are being advised to keep quite. The concerned authorities should take immediate action in this regard.
