Attended this last night at Columbia, our partner in THE YEAR OF JAMES BALDWIN. Good to see a couple of white men on a stage who are unafraid to confront the demons that haunt us and the promise that can emerge from that examination. Someone said that Baldwins agenda throughout his essays was to save the stained soul of our country. Well... lets start reading and talking. Thats what this year is about. And as Farah Jasmine Griffin put it last night, and I paraphrase, how amazing it feels every time I say YEAR OF JAMES BALDWIN! The renewal of attention to him is growing and my hope is to hear more and more from those who werent aware now becoming aware - of him, his work, his message and how that ignites thoughtful dialogue on a whole bunch of issues we face - but we can start with race and all the ills around just that.
