You know what impressed me most about my first Gary Con? - TopicsExpress

You know what impressed me most about my first Gary Con? Generosity of spirit. Id like to think this Con attracts a certain type of gamer: Someone willing to think of others; someone who wants to lend his or her voice to honoring the memory of a man that gave so much to all of us. And I wasnt proven wrong, this year. I ran a game that required the use of electricity, but my scheduled table was in the middle of the room. The DM running the event behind me took time out from his game to go out to his car and grab a power strip, so we could share the extension cord he was using. A few hours later, I was at the bar trying to grab a drink, but it was during the Wisconsin game, so the place was hopping. When the bartender finally got around to helping me out, the guys next to me paid for my drink. And that same day I got to witness an auction benefiting Ernie Gygax and Jim Ward. Not a day went by when Id mention something about one of my events or about the Con, and without batting an eye, perfect strangers would offer to help. When I mentioned my problem with electricity to Ernie Gygax as we were passing each other in the hallway, he offered to go up to his hotel room and grab some 1st edition rule books for me. People talk about Garys gift of gaming, but Gary Con is an exhibition of his gift of generosity of spirit. Im proud to have taken part in this weekends festivities, but Im even prouder still to have met you all and to have experienced everything that gaming is really about.
