Attention All Motorists Remember to Pay for your Petrol/Diesel. Failing to pay could result in a Criminal Conviction!! I am making you, the motoring community aware of this as part of my continuous drive to make Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus policing areas as safe and crime free as possible. In short, every time a customer / motorist forgets to pay for their petrol/diesel they could potentially face a criminal conviction. Over the period 1st April – 4th July reports of Making off Without Payment (MOWP) from garages have increased from 27 in 2013 to 133 in 2014. You will be interested to hear police are working with filling station management, we have identified the most effective and cheapest way to deal with this matter is for staff members to simply ask customers if they obtained fuel. Garage / filling station staff are being to asked to remind you, the motorist, with this simple prompt: “From which pump have you obtained fuel?” or, “Have you obtained fuel?” I firmly believe by working in partnership we can make a positive difference in this area, and reduce the chances of you the motorist getting a conviction for MOWP. Through some excellent initiatives and effective partnerships you will be interested to hear crime in the Newtownabbey area has fallen – approximately -19% over the last 5 years and -31.5% in Carrickfergus.
