Attention FLORIDA residents - Its that time of year again and because of the recent rains in Florida these toads are out earlier than normal. We STRONGLY encourage you to RESEARCH on your own how to handle these dangerous toads....If you know or strongly suspect that your dog or cat has been poisoned by this toad, IMMEDIATELY flush out his mouth with water. Because Dachshunds are smaller dogs the poison does tend to work their way through their bodies quicker - we have lost some DARE dogs and DARE alumni to these toads and they ARE DANGEROUS IN FLORIDA (see below) Rinse the animals mouth for approximately five minutes. The use of a garden hose for continuous flow is advisable provided you are careful not to choke or drown the animal. DO NOT allow your pet to swallow the rinse water, it will have poison in it.... hold your pets head slightly downward....and begin to rinse....apply a SMALL amount of pressure around the throat - DO NOT CHOKE THE DOG - but you do not want them to swallow the water** use a napkin, cloth, towel etc... to wipe the toxin off your dogs gums.... the poison is absorbed by ingestion AND through the gum line.... YOU WANT TO DO ALL OF THIS BEFORE HEADING TO THE VET - TIME IS YOUR ENEMY IF YOUR PET HAS COME INTO CONTACT WITH A BUFO... DOGS CAN DIE WITHING MINUTES.... YOU MUST RINSE THEIR MOUTH AND GET THE POISON OFF THEIR GUMS 1ST!!!
