Attention Rogers students, parents and PTSA members! A message - TopicsExpress

Attention Rogers students, parents and PTSA members! A message form our outgoing Principal, Mrs. Vernon: Rogers Family, Some of you may know that the district has been working on a Leadership Sustainability plan that involves restructuring the organizational chart to improve support at the building level. These changes are based on recommendations and benchmarking that is included in a recent report you can find on the TPS website. (tulsaschools.org/4_About_District/_documents/pdf/_strategic_plan/TPS_Leadership_Sustainability_Final_Report_130509.pdf) Given our changing emphasis to principals as “instructional leaders,” the district is replacing the Associate Superintendent structure with eight Instructional Leadership Director (ILD) positions, one of which will oversee the Growing Together Neighborhood, including Will Rogers, Kendall-Whittier and Sequoyah Schools along with Webster, Clinton, and Eugene Field. (Best practice suggests that there should be no more than 15 schools reporting to a single leader.) As I reflect on the past two years, I realize that our experience during this time has been the most professionally challenging and rewarding of my career. The culture we have created at Will Rogers has afforded all of us the autonomy and support to be innovative, creative, and highly effective in our individual positions while all working towards our collective mission. I am hesitant to take any credit for Will Rogers College High as I am acutely aware that it has taken each and every member of the Rogers Family to accomplish what has occurred at Will Rogers since August, 2011. Upon reading the job description of the new ILD over the Growing Together Neighborhood, I instinctively felt that we need a person who knows the heart of Will Rogers and can lead Will Rogers in a way that will enable the culture to continue to flourish and improve. Additionally, the new ILD needs to be someone who can bring the same enthusiasm for academic success to the other Growing Together schools. The new ILD needs to be an unapologetic advocate for the Growing Together Neighborhood, who always keeps the students and staff’s best interest at heart. With that in mind, I chose to apply for the position and found out today that I have indeed been named the new ILD for the Growing Together Neighborhood schools. I do not consider this move as a separation from Will Rogers. Rather, I view this as an opportunity to be in a district level position that enables me to reestablish my commitment to Will Rogers success at a higher level, and to continue to make decisions for the future success of Will Rogers. I also see this as an opportunity to challenge the other schools in the Growing Together Neighborhood to continue on their path to becoming highly effective schools who will graduate the best students the district has to offer. I will be on the selection committee for the new Will Rogers Principal and can guarantee you that the new principal will be someone who has the capacity and skills to continue to lead the staff collaboratively and innovatively, staying true to the Mission and Vision of Will Rogers. I am committed to ensuring the Rogers Family will have a new principal who understands "The Will Rogers experience empowers ALL students to be college and career ready through high standards and academic excellence" and will continue to make the working environment one in which the staff can excel, thrive, and find professional growth and success. I will forever be grateful for the two years you and the Will Rogers experience have given me, and our school will always be a part of me. I will never abandon what we have started, but it is time for me to be able to support it in another capacity. It is time for me to be able to provide leadership for the Rogers Family at a different level. I will be continuing to support you and advocate for you and the work you do. I know that Will Rogers will continue to flourish and I will am thrilled to continue to be a part of that. Sincerely, Stacey
