Attention Spring Meet Attendees! Because of the unseasonably warm temperatures, lack of rainfall and overall dry conditions, any solid fuel (wood, coal, or charcoal) fired equipment running at the LALSRM Spring Meet will be required to have both a spark arrestor (The arrestor screen mesh size can be not be larger than 1/8”) and a well-fitting ash pan. Oil burners must have a spark arrestor as well. Steam locomotive engineers will be required to make appropriate adjustments for a stoichiometric mixture (complete fuel burn) with minimal smoke. Each engineer is responsible to empty the ash pan in the designated ash dump areas. These are located east of the Sherwood Station platform, at Sutchville Station and at the steaming bays. Ashes from solid fuel locomotives shall only be discharged in these designated areas. After the ash pan has been emptied, water must be applied to the ashes. Cleanup is the responsibility of the individual discharging the ashes. For each solid fuel fired steam engine, fire extinguishers are recommended. As usual, barbecues and campfires are not permitted and smoking is permitted only in designated areas. Please be aware that if the fire danger is categorized as very high or “extreme, or if the fire department or park officials deem necessary, restrictions that prohibit the burning of solid fuels may be imposed.
