Attention friends who enjoy dining out at restaurants: your server is getting paid TWO DOLLARS an hour ($2.13, to be exact) to do the things he or she does. This means that (s)he takes care of your table, among any number of other tables (I personally have had up to 30 tables at one time!), while keeping the sweet tea made fresh for everyone, bussing all the empty tables, keeping the dining room generally clean, stocking things like napkins, sugar, ice, silverware, cups, dishes, etc, helping in the kitchen when possible, and even changing the trash in the restaurant. We scrub sticky ice cream off of tables, we pick up the mess that your children made, we cater to every need with a smile on our face whether or not weve actually had that great of a day, and usually most of us do it after a week of hard classes and extracurricular activities. All the while making $2.13 an hour. Please tip your waitress, folks. Its only appropriate -- no one can live off of two dollars an hour, and I promise you that your server has earned it.
