Attention journalists who are upset by Chelsea Clintons $600,000 payday: Your writing isnt as important as the audience you can bring to your writing. And yes, while you may be a real journalist Haroon, real journalism doesnt matter if you cant get people to read it. Chelsea Clinton has a platform, and a following. People will tune in for her, whether she has something important to say or not. Im not saying this is right. Or that its fair. Its just what is. So, instead of getting upset by Chelseas payday, start thinking about how you can start building your platform so you can command similar rates. As an example: Imagine if I took a journalism job. And on my application I told the company, Hey, Ive got 150,000 subscribers to promote this to that currently dont subscribe to your magazine. Id be worth much more to the company than someone who cant bring the readership. So whats the lesson here? Build a readership. Build a loyal fan base of people who will follow you from one publication to another. One network to another. And stop complaining. Its one more reason to Build a Blog that Converts, too ;-).
