Attorney General Holder announced this week that the Department of Justice considers the protection of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to extend to claims of discrimination based on an individual’s gender identity, including transgender status. Title XVII applies to state and local public employers, not private employers, but an EEOC ruling from 2012 supports similar protections for employees of private employers. Whenever you hear people say that all politicians are the same, tell them theyre wrong: this is happening because we have a progressive, inclusive President.
