Audition notice for Town of Guilford’s 375th commemorative Civil War event, May 31st 2014. Submitted by director Kandie Carle, East Haddam Stage Company. Wanted: Actors and Historical Interpreters 5 men and 1 woman The producers are looking for individuals to portray actual people from the town of Guilford, in short memorized scripted vignettes throughout the day. The scenes take place during the American Civil War, and are based on actual letters. Some performances will be in-doors, others outside, all around the town green beginning at 11:00am Saturday May 31st, and ending at 7:00pm. Rehearsals will start mid May, and will be based on actor’s schedule. Stipend available. Auditions will consist of your short prepared dramatic monologue, and cold readings from the scripts. Auditions are Sunday January 19th, 2014, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and will take place at the Guilford Community Recreation Center, in the Menunkatuck room, 32 Church Street, Guilford CT. You must call in advance to reserve an audition slot. DO NOT CALL THE REC CENTER. Aid in giving an over-all feeling of the 1860s time period. Will be given historical information to share with the public in an informal, improvisational way. Comfort with improv techniques a plus. Uriah Parmalee Age range 20-25 Left Yale to enlist in the Calvary Promoted to Captain 1st Cavalry Union Army Died in 1865 Raphael Ward Benton Age range 35-45 Was a farmer who enlisted as a Private in the 14th CT Infantry Died from wounds after the battle of Antietam Left a wife and three sons. Toby Trout African American Age range 30-40 Was a private in the U.S.Colored Troops Died from battle wounds in 1864 William B. Norton Age range 20-30 Was a farmer who enlisted as Private in Artillery Survived the war, went on to marry. Harriet Hawley Age range 30-40 First cousin of Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry Ward Beecher and Uriah Parmalee (see above). She and her husband were ardent abolitionists. She suffered from various health issues. During the war, she went south to help teach literacy to formerly enslaved people, and was a war correspondent to the Hartford Evening Press. Also worked in Army hospital.
