Aug. 25 Daily Announcements: The first dance of the year will take place after the football game this Friday. It will be a sock hop so bring your socks. It will be in the cafeteria until 12:00. Cost is $3. Breathalyzer forms will be available in the Office starting Tuesday. Will all members of last years girls tennis team please see Mr. Will sometime today. Lets recycle Columbus: - In the Hall by the front doors to Columbus are two tubs for collecting plastic dairy tubs that can be recycled. Columbus Senior Jake Weber is leading this recycling project. Please take the time to read the attached information sheet and learn how you can help recycle. All proceeds from the program will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul to help them make a difference in the Cedar Valley. Students driving off of the Columbus grounds at the end of the School Day: -- Students: in order to help the traffic flow after school leaving the Columbus grounds, Columbus students - please exit on to St. Francis Drive. We will leave W. 9th Street for Blessed Maria only student pick-up and exit for the 1st 10-15 mins after school dismisses. Right now it is very packed on Columbus West 9th side w/ Blessed Maria vehicles, so PLEASE exit on to St. Francis Drive. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION WITH THIS and DRIVE SAFELY AND CAREFULLY. We will let you know if we need to further adjust. Water Bottles in the Classroom: - During the Fall while it is very hot out, students will be permitted to have Clear Water Bottles in the Classroom. The Water Bottles should only have Ice Water in them. Thank you. Serving Detentions: - Students have 3 opportunities to serve detention: with the teacher that assigned it on the day they received it, the next morning with Ms Wiss in Room 218 or with the teacher that assigned it or the afternoon it was received with the teacher that assigned it. - If you did not serve your detention in one of those 3 opportunities, you will not be eligible to practice that day and you will receive an additional 90 mins of detention to serve. - Rule #1: Do not get Detention. - Rule #2: Serve it within the 3 opportunities; Columbus should not have to track you down. Dress Code Reminder for today: - Can your shirt be legitimately tucked in? If not, it is not the right size or style for the dress code? Or are you covering your missing belt. Remember, if your pants have belt loops, you should be wearing a belt :) ATTENTION FRESHMEN; If you are interested in participating in student government this year please sign up in the main office. Elections will be held early next week. Meetings are on Thursday morning before school. This is your opportunity to give input or ideas that you may have. Information on Drivers Education through Drive Tek is available in the Columbus office. Classes begin at West HS on Sept. 4th. CAMPUS MINISTRY: GUIDANCE OFFICE: **Students wishing to make schedule changes need to see Mrs. Ney as soon as possible. Some of you still have blank spots in your schedule and that needs to be taken care of. Employment Opportunities: The Brown Bottle in Waterloo and Doughy Joeys in Cedar Falls are seeking applicants for the positions of host/hostess. Applicants must be 16 or older. Hours are variable, some weeknights as well as Friday and Saturdays. Must be outgoing, energetic, and willing to learn. Experience is great, but not required.
