August 26, 2013 To Dr. Ring and the Board of Education, This - TopicsExpress

August 26, 2013 To Dr. Ring and the Board of Education, This letter is for the record. I would expect it to be noted in the Minutes for this meeting. First and foremost I would like to Thank the Community for getting involved in demanding Mr. Taplers reinstatement, you did an AWESOME job. It was astonishing to see the community come together for one of their own and to get involved and hopefully stay involved. There was a tremendous amount of effort put forth to bring back such a greatly admired and dedicated administrator and give him back the reputation he so rightly deserves. I can say first hand that Mr. Tapler was overwhelmed with the amount of support and grateful to know what he does makes a difference. It’s one thing to think you are making a difference it’s another to be shown just how much. I know he was looking forward to getting back this morning anticipating the new year. As I have said before shame on you Dr. Ring , Mrs. Deluca, Mike Nofi, Diane Burke, and Sue Wilson. Hopefully next time you try to railroad and Bully someone you get the same treatment as the BOE meeting on July 11th or you are smart enough not to. Apparently my failure to be involved as well as others has allowed our system to become “BROKEN” . Trusting in a board that was voted in and trusting the HIRED superintendent was bad judgment and has not gone unpunished by the way our school is being run. That being said while I took on Rallying for Mr.Tapler as a personal crusade, I became extremely educated and highly disappointed with a lot of issues in our district. I also became aware that not being involved and not voicing my concerns would be a disservice to my school, my children, my community and the GREAT teachers that help mold our children. Starting with DR. Ring…I am guessing correct me if I am wrong that you have come to realize that the power you have is LIMITED! Limited to what the community wants not what you want for your own self-preservation. I am grateful the community knocked you down a few notches and informed you that your bulling will NOT be tolerated. I do not understand how you received a pay increase of 170% over 4 years. Over 300% more than the average annual household’s income in Rocky Point. I’m not understanding how you go from a starting salary of $210,000 to $335,000 over 4 years when the teachers of our district the ones with our children 5 days a week 7 hours a day cannot get a contract with a 2% increase for more than 3 years now. And most of all I’m not understanding how the BOE voted yes for such a thing when for that kind of money we could have a superintendent and an assistant superintendent for the same amount eliminating Deluca’s salary all together to be used for something else. I find that to be fiscally irresponsible. I am requesting in writing that the BOE put a freeze on any new amendments and pay increases to Dr. Ring’s contract including extensions and automatic pay raises. I also am putting in a formal request to the BOE to notify Dr. Ring in the proper time frame allotted by law that his contract will not be extended and we no longer require his services. I’m also requesting that Dr. Ring and Mrs. Deluca put in their letters of resignation effective immediately consconsidering that because of you there is no trust with the community that you can correctly do your job. The moral of the teachers and administrators is so low that you cannot recover it, Our school is in the RED financially due to your bad choices. Our graduation rate is low. Our school ranking is in the 410 out of 702. Your hiring of administration solely on who they know not by their knowledge and resume is a great disservice to the staff of our district and our children IE: Giving Sue Wilson her position when CLEARLY she does not belong there! As far as the Board of Education I am ashamed that you are up there. There was numerous requests made to you since July 11th asking the BOE for a meeting with concerned community members prior to this BOE meeting and all requests went blatantly unanswered. SHAME ON YOU! You were also sent a copy of an email sent out by Nofi and Burke disgracing our community, repeatedly calling names, and forgetting that Dr. Ring works or us and that the BOE is his boss NOT his puppets. I have attached that email and also requested that it be read tonight. Unfortunately your grammar and spelling was that of a first grader. Mass email from Nofi and Burke. Friends, Over the past few months there has been a growing chorus of discontent regarding our school district coming from a few malcontents. These unscrupulous people are trying to make the community believe that there is something wrong in the Rocky Point School District when quite the opposite is true. We should be more proud of our District and what it is providing our children than ever. Despite what have been the most challenging socioeconomic times since the great depression, Rocky Point has been able to grow and improve the District in every way. While others around us have been cutting faculty and staff, programs for students and generally delivering less for the community, Rocky Point has augmented our staff, delivered new exciting and enriching programs and improved our facilities. At the heart of the success Rocky Point has demonstrated over the past three years is the faculty and staff of the District lead by a superior Superintendent. Dr. Michael Ring has delivered to Rocky Point exactly what it needed; a keen sense academic and financial leadership, foresight and stewardship. Naming all of the accomplishments lead by Dr. Ring would take too long, but to name just a few:Academic Achievements:Created the first-ever strategic plan addressing areas for academic excellence, organizational development, and fiscal sustainability Developed and instituted support programs for at-risk students and struggling learners, including: ICARE SHARP Credit recovery Test preparation READ 180 and System 44 Instituted numerous new elective courses Instituted eight new Advanced Placement (AP) courses Increased availability of career and vocational programs by 100%, now allowing over 90 students to participate in these programs Reformed Special Education department to improve service, increase communication and deliver a higher level of Least Restrictive Environment, including reducing inclusion ratios each year Increased graduation rate from 85% to 92% within three years Fiscal Achievements: Instituted two Capital Reserve funds which provided for: New High School roof Asbestos abatement at the High School and JAE Renovation of the High School bathrooms near the gym as well as the boys locker room showers and bathroom Renovation of three High School science classrooms New High School track Installation of artificial turf field at the High School Renovation of four HS bathrooms All with no additional cost to taxpayers Maintained our full program of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities Worked with legislators to recover millions in building aid lost due to errors by prior administration And, as Asst Superintendent was the driving force behind the elimination of the old Central Administration office and the move to FJC. Saving the District over $250,000 a year.To simply speak of what Dr. Ring has saved this District does not do justice to the tremendous program improvement and progress the District has made during his tenure. And all of this during a time when are neighboring districts are making difficult decisions on where and how to reduce services. The even more amazing part is that all of these programs were not delivered at the expense of the future. We fully expect to continue to deliver on our existing programs and meet our financial obligations under the tax cap over the next several years. I don’t understand the actions of the select disgruntled group and the way they represent Rocky Point at the last Board meeting was repugnant. It was an unruly mob that openly attacked the tremendous professionals leading our District using innuendo, mistruths and defamations to further their own selfish agendas. I have had many other community members approach me with their disgust and disappoint in the actions of this select few and how poorly their actions reflect on Rocky Point. I appreciate this feedback and ask each of you to continue to support the great accomplishments of the Rocky Point Schools and out talent professionalsI am proud of what we have accomplished in my time on the Board of Education and consider myself and our community very fortunate to have a man of Dr. Ring’s intellect, professionalism and ethics leading us to great heights. Now this was an email sent to all of Nofi and Burkes supporters. I think providing the intended receivers email would be the wrong .However if you are calling an 85 year old man who had 4 children graduate Rocky point a Malcontent for voicing his opinion and concerns and telling you that you picked the wrong guy when you decided to railroad Mr. Tapler, If you are calling the parents who spoke with passion and had tears that their concerns for their children fell on deaf ears until Mr Tapler stepped in and heard them and remedied their issue unscrupulous people, If you are calling a new graduate that went for a teaching degree unruly because she voiced her fears in becoming a teacher if she would have to be dealing with a board of education and superintendent’s like you, If you are calling children in high school that said they wouldn’t be where they are now if not for Mr. Tapler repugnant, And if you are calling 7 and 8 year old children that told their stories of bulling ,not fitting in and just needing guidance and getting it from Mr. Taple mistruths and done for selfish agendas then HOW DARE YOU!!!!!! You forget you are in a VOTED seat! You are a disgrace to our school a Disgrace to our Community and most of all a disgrace to our children. I am formally demanding your resignations tonight your gross negligence is unacceptable. Now that being said your seats are up in May, you have a choice to bow out quietly or I can show your bad choices and disgrace you the way you are disgracing us right out of your seats. Because I can Guarantee after this your supports will be very minimal and you will NOT be sitting there come election time. I’m putting in a formal request that interim Board members take the seats of Nofi and Burke till the new election when the new candidates are chosen. You stated in the email that we are at the most challenging socioeconomic times since the great depression yet you increase the superintendent’s salary by $125,000 in4 years? I ask you what you were thinking. Again you should be ashamed! I am requesting a roll call vote regarding the pay increase and added amendments to Dr. Ring’s contract at that next BOE meeting and that is NOT a personal issue so read your rules and please be prepared to give that answer at the next BOE meeting. I’d like to thank Scott and Susan for attending the Parent Forum and listening to our concerns. You gave hope that there might be some communication between the BOE and the community moving forward to positive change. Transparency is a large issue with the community and the BOE. Please come up with a better system that works so the open communication can helps our “BROKEN” system. And we can continue to fix the unaddressed, unattended to, and blatantly disregarded issues. Please remember DR. Ring works for US, You DONT work for him!
