August 4, 2013 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time 1st reading: Eccl 1:2; 2:21-23 Psalm 90 2nd reading: Colossians 3:1-5, 9-11 Gospel Luke 12:13-21 + + + + + + + My Reflection: What is it with material things that it is so hard for us to let go? What is with material things that we don’t care to share it? What is with material things that we rather see it rot in our house than give it to the poor? There are many who are so greedy as if they can bring their wealth to their graves. Why do we limit our generosity as if God has limited His generosity to us? We must give without strings attached for this is the true essence of giving. Wealth and other material things are temporary it will slip out of our hands anytime; hence let us not allow it to possess us. Let us rather use it so that others especially the poor may use it so that they could survive. Wealth, influence, power are passing, God entrusted us with it so that through us others may live and benefit from it. On this 18th Sunday gospel, there’s that rich greedy man who stored goods for himself thinking that it will stay with him for a lifetime. But he suddenly died and never benefited from his greed, the latter part of the gospel says it all. “Thus will it be for all who store up treasure for themselves but are not rich in what matters to God.” + + + + + + + mjdasma.blogspot/2013/08/my-reflection-for-august-4-eighteenth.html
