August 5, 2014 For immediate release: Bayonne Bridge to Have Four Twenty-Minute Daytime Closures on Thursday, August 7 Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has advised the City of Bayonne that there will be four twenty-minute daytime closures on the Bayonne Bridge on Thursday, August 7. These closures will begin on the hour at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. The purpose of the closures will be to verify the procedures for the delivery of overweight and oversized pier segments in support of the Bayonne Bridge project. There will be two dry runs with a forty-five-ft. trailer departing Ports America and traveling to the work site entrance near the Staten Island Toll Plaza. The other two closures will allow for the repositioning of the trailer. These operational runs will provide an opportunity for state and local agencies to observe the effects twenty-minute closures, also known as holds, will have on off-peak traffic.
