August 8, 2014 TO: Governor Phil Bryant Dr. Carey M. Wright Miranda Beard Mayor Johnny McGee Dear Sir and Madams: Today I come to you with great concerns about the Laurel City School District. For several years I have requested that they give our children their books to take home, giving them a reading assignment of the chapters they are working on. Here in this school district, every year they have the parents to sign book cards like the children are getting their books but in reality, they are locked away in their rooms or in the basement. As a tutor who try to help parents, I find that children are sent home with just homework paper. When they get home they can not get help from their parents. Some of these parents have been out of school for years and would need the book to refresh their memories or even learn alone with their children. We as taxs payers help buy these books to educate our children. Reading is important and every subject requires some reading. I am asking that you require that the Laurel City School District pass out these books to the children. And before they can tell you that the children will tear them up, back in the day when I was in school, this taught us responsibility....Let us loose a book or damage a book to cause my mother to pay out of extra money...Do I need say more. One final question that I need an answer to? Why have the parents to fill out book cards and the children never receive their books? Sincerely yours, Concerned about our childrens education Anthony J. Hudson.
