***August Newsletter(ish)** Where to begin?! August has brought us in full circle as we started the rescue a year ago this month! We had just taken Rose, a chained up pit momma from this POS guy who was selling her on a Facebook site. After contacting every rescue group I could find and hearing they were all full (something I now understand!) we decided to adopt Rose out on our own. Through Facebook, networking and bringing her out we found her the most perfect home and family--- and officially launched bushel & a peck. Now, a year later, after every up and down, twist and turn and road block imaginable, we have finally gotten our stride. First, although we are still working out the paperwork, we want to announce that B&P is creating a partnership with Wags 4 Tags! Wags 4 tags is a local organization that takes rescue dogs and pairs them with veterans with PTSD to train to become service dogs (sound like something we would be interested in eh). Millie, who has been receiving so much love, support and training with our foster family, will be the first dog to enter their program and there is already an application from a veteran that she would be perfect with. We have home visits arranged for the next 2 weeks and Millie will move in with the wags 4 tags trainer to start her service dog training! We have been contacted by WNCN to have our adoptable dogs be shown each week during the 6:00 broadcast. We will be sending in pictures and bios of each dog (mattis and cadence as of now..) and hope to even be able to bring them to the studio at some point! This will be a wonderful opportunity to gain more supporters and hopefully find m&cs forever homes! While we have created this partnership with Wags 4 Tags, we still have our amazing service dog trainer (who trained my lobo to be my service dog) from Triumphant Tails who does consulting, (and answers the phone the 628736283 I call her for advice). I (Liz) have been accepted by Megan to be TTs newest intern and will spend the next 4- 6 months working with her while she trains service dogs for various clients (PTSD, stability assist, seizure alert, diabetes alert, and autism dogs). Today we are heading down to Camp Lejuene to meet with a representative from Wounded Warrior battalion, a USMC unit that aids the wounded, ill, and injured active duty members and helps them heal to be able to go back to their units. We will also be meeting our friends Battalion Military Life Counselor to talk about partnerships with our dogs and active duty members who may benefit from fostering or adopting a B&P dog, along with having a meeting with the hospital, as they are in need of more service and therapy dogs. Wish us luck! We have a wonderful foster family who has done a phenomenal job with Millie and once we have more fantastic, amazing fosters, we will be able to pull and save more dogs (so step on up!) Mattis and Cadence are STILL up for adoption and we are now turning all attention towards finding these nuggets a home. They are continuing training for the Canine Good Citizen test and while they love being with us, they are ready for their new, forever families! We have more fundraisers in the future (think dog wash, cooking class, paint my pet, cycle-thon!) and hope that our support network will grow! For our 1 year anniversary, we would LOVE to get 1000 likes on our page, weve been sitting in the 700 range for quite some time now and with all these exciting new ventures, we just know that we can get those numbers up. And finalllly, THANK YOU. Thank you to all of our supporters, from the very first day to now. For the words of encouragement, advice, and love. Thank you for donations, sharing, fostering and making a difference not only in our rescue dogs lives but us rescuers as well. We have learned so much this past year, and with these life lessons and tools at our disposal, we know that Bushel & A Peck will thrive and continue to be a responsible and respected throughout our community. Love, The B&P Team
