August in Osage County stars Meryl Streep who has mouth cancer, both literally and figuratively, speaking to her children like she was spoken to as a child, in a nasty, critical way. I was disappointed that she didnt do the research on what life is like while undergoing treatment for oral cancer. At one point, she pulled her lip out showing her daughter the cancer, but it was low in the gum, an uncommon spot, and she never referred to that area again by holding it with pain. She claimed a few times how her mouth burned, but she never had difficulty speaking, swallowing, coughing.... If only the director knew what its really like, they could have made the devastation of it more realistic, driving viewers to take the health of their mouths more seriously.
