Australia Day January 26 is symbolic of whats known as The Culture/History Wars. Essentially, how do we define British Colonialism and dispossession of Australia from its indigenous owners. Are we to look at it as a sad chapter in Australias history, or, are we to forget about that and look forward, for surely we are not responsible for what happened over 200 years ago. The problem is, if we dont acknowledge what happened, validate the suffering that occurred (and still occurring for some), and pay reparations for the wealth that was taken from its original owners, then we are all still indirectly participating in this dispossession. Sorry and government intervention are just decoration and methods used to by Government to reinforce a racist and discriminating social structure and cast system. Happy Australia Day...
